Description

The Wettin Geotrail offers a themed hiking and educational experience for visitors in the "Lower Saale Valley" nature park.
The 9 km long educational trail, as a circular route, opens up the area northwest of Wettin. Ten boards explain the diverse geological conditions and remnants of mining in this historically significant area. With its focus on geology and mining history, the Wettin Geotrail complements the existing nature and cultural educational trails in the nature park area. The facts presented on the display panels provide a comprehensive view of the geological conditions.
The former Wettin coal mining district is known as the site of a classic Carboniferous flora and fauna. Visitors can enjoy impressive views of the nature park area along the lower Saale river. The trail, mostly on paved and unpaved paths, takes about 3 hours to complete.
