Old and new Mössingen, typical orchard landscape, old beech forests and species-rich juniper heath, floodplains and Albtrauf, viewpoints, barbecue area and panoramic viewpoint, landslide and flood protection, school center and town center - this tour shows many facets of Mössingen and paints an exciting overall picture.
Once around Mössingen's local mountain, this somewhat longer but varied hike leads from the town center to the hamlet of Ziegelhütte, along the foothills of Farrenberg and Hirschkopf and through fields and meadows back to the town center. From the Brunnenstraße parking lot, the route leads up to Peter and Paulskirche and past it in an easterly direction through the cemetery to Aiblestraße. We follow this uphill to the traffic circle and then turn left along the road to Ziegelhütte for about 100m to the signpost mast. Here we turn left onto the field path, following the signs for the Leisawegle premium walking trail towards the bird protection center. Via the Linsenhalde with a wide view over the fields and the Linsenbühl with its orchards, we reach the weiler of Ziegelhütte.
Past the NABU bird protection center, we continue along the Leisawegle, which leads us across a pasture (with suckler cows from spring to autumn - please note the signpost) to the Josefsgärtle and then into the forest. A little later we come to the Ziegelrutschweg, a wide forest path. From here, we follow the signs for the Dreifürstensteig premium hiking trail uphill to the Unter Andeck parking lot. Crossing the access road to Farrenberg, we stay on the Dreifürstensteig for a while. Passing the Unter Andeck barbecue site, the trail soon follows a narrow path to the Unter Andeck viewpoint with its panoramic swing. Continue through the heath to the panoramic lounger on the south side of the Farrenberg.
About 100m downhill, we reach the paved Talheimer Weg. Here we say goodbye to the Dreifürstensteig and follow the little road with little traffic for a short distance to the west. Our path is now marked with a green apple (instead of a red one until then). Soon after the S-bend, a forest path branches off to the left, which we follow slightly downhill into Buchbachtal. At the first fork, stay left and continue downhill. At the second fork, we leave the wide path, also turning left. We cross the Buchbach stream and then take the second fork to the right. A narrow path leads further downhill, where it joins a wider forest path. Follow this along the edge of the forest to the paved Belsener Weg.
Continue straight downhill on this little-used connecting road. After a good 500 m (after passing the water tank and a bench), a gravel field path branches off to the right. Follow this in a northerly direction back to Mössingen. After crossing Buchsteigstraße, the route continues downhill along In Rosenbenz (also crossing Gustav-Werner-Straße). Between the high-rise buildings (In Rosenbenz bend), a footpath leads to the avenue Kanton Saint-Julien. We take the accompanying footpath to the right (east) as far as the pedestrian lights, where we cross the avenue. Now continue straight ahead, past the small playground and the Jahnhallen, turn right at the Quenstedt-Gymnasium towards Friedrich-Listschulen and between the two school buildings to the footpath, which continues north along the eastern edge of the school center towards the city center.
After reaching Breite Straße, we follow it to the right to the health center, cross Mössinger Straße at the town square (traffic lights) and reach the market square with its water feature.
The route continues along Falltorstraße and Sulzgasse to Steinlach, where the Mühlegärtle Park begins. Turning right into the park, we follow the path through the park until it joins Hirschgasse (Museum Messerschmiede). Immediately afterwards, we turn left into Karrengasse and onto Falltorstraße. Follow this for a short distance upstream until you reach the "Haus an der Steinlach". Here we take the footpath along the Steinlach to the wooden arched bridge. Crossing this, we return to Brunnenstraße and the starting point after about 100 m.
After the tour, Mössinger Mitte offers numerous good places to stop for refreshments.
