Important notice: The signage of the route will be dismantled throughout the year 2024. You can find the route as a GPX file at the bottom of this page.
The special feature: Bike and train can be ideally combined on the way. This allows for day trips, stage changes, or combined train-bike excursions to be individually planned from a fixed location.
The BahnRadRoute Teuto-Senne is a varied long-distance cycle path that takes you along two railway lines through the cultural landscape of the Teutoburg Forest with its small and large cities.
The route starts either at Osnabrück main train station or in the middle of Osnabrück's old town, at St. Peter's Cathedral. You shouldn't miss the Town Hall of the Westphalian Peace on the market square vis-à-vis the cathedral! After leaving the Peace City of Osnabrück by bike (or train), you dive into the mosaic-like forest and meadow landscape of the Osnabrück region. After a break in Bad Iburg or Bad Rothenfelde (tour variations available, see below), you then almost imperceptibly reach the state border from Lower Saxony to North Rhine-Westphalia. But only almost imperceptibly, because this border is noticeably felt by our calves over the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest.
Scenically, the varied mix of hilly forest scenery and rural meadow plains along the southern edge of the Teutoburg Forest continues. The actual path remains fairly flat throughout, allowing for a relaxed cycling experience. From Bielefeld, you follow the route through the Senne, the sandy plain on the eastern edge of the Westphalian Bay. Throughout the entire route, you move in close proximity to the train tracks, so you can spontaneously continue your journey by train at one of the numerous train stations. This way, if you are traveling with children or in changing weather, you are always on the safe side. The endpoint of the route is the old episcopal city of Paderborn, which impresses not only with its Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and the Imperial Palace. With the triple-gabled Town Hall and the Neuhaus Castle with its Baroque garden, you will find two pearls of the so-called Weser Renaissance in the Paderborn urban area.
For those who want to extend the already very varied and attractive direct route to Paderborn, detours to Bad Iburg, Borgholzhausen, or to downtown Bielefeld are also possible.
You can also find an overview of the tours in the BahnRadeln brochure.
