Ridge tour

Of course, cyclists on the Giebeltour get to know complete farms - and not just their pointed gables. But once you are on the way, the tour name soon becomes clear. Because most of the Artland farmers protect their house and farm garden with high hedges from storms and curious glances. Therefore, only the magnificent half-timbered gables are initially visible from a distance.

Information panels at individual farms along the tour tell their respective stories - and overall make the development of the special farm culture of the Artland region tangible. Most farms are agricultural businesses and cannot be visited up close. However, some farms offer visitors extraordinary experiences. For example, the Fuchs-Bodde-Gottwald farm just before Badbergen (if you cycle clockwise). By appointment, you can visit the Bioland Imkerei Honigsüß with a fittingly flower-rich garden here between the end of April and the end of October.
Just past Badbergen is the Artländer Eselhof - here too, an appointment is necessary to experience tractor and carriage rides, donkey rides, and the petting zoo. Then cyclists reach the Hof Elting-Bußmeyer, which with its café is ideal for a break about halfway. In the Nortrup district of Suttrup is the property of the Renze family, which looks back on a history of over 550 years.
For a change, between Klein Mimmelage and Groß Mimmelage just before Quakenbrück, there is no farm but Everdings Mühle, a picturesque gallery Dutch windmill with a historic sawmill and rose garden.

If you started the circular tour early in Quakenbrück, you now have time for a leisurely stroll through the historic old town with its more than 100 half-timbered houses. A fitting end to the Giebeltour could be a visit to the city museum. It is located directly on the market square in a nearly 200-year-old two-story gable house.
