"The Nurtschweg is one of the most famous main hiking trails in the Upper Palatinate and part of the E6 Baltic-Adriatic long-distance hiking trail. From the monastery town of Waldsassen, it follows the border with the Czech Republic to Waldmünchen. On the "Green Roof" of Europe, as the largest contiguous forest area in Central Europe is also known, hikers can experience numerous natural and cultural beauties, as well as the region's only spa, the Sibyllenbad. Several hiking crossings directly along the trail provide an alternative route, e.g. from the OWV Silberhütte shelter via the Kreuzstein hiking crossing. Johann Baptist Nurtsch, a postal clerk who was born in Weiden in 1872, revived the ancient and hidden paths of passers-by, soldiers, traders and pilgrims and made them accessible with yellow-red-yellow markings.
