Tour 26: Falkenstein - Marienstein - Martinsneukirchen - Schillertswiesen - Gfäll - Postfelden...

The market town of Falkenstein with its castle (11th century) visible from afar is the starting point for this route, which leads through the foothills of the forest. Worth seeing: the castle (now the Haus des Gastes) with a magnificent view as well as the hunting museum, castle park (approx. 14 ha, the second largest nature and rock park in Bavaria). The heated adventure pool invites you to take a break. Our cycle tour first leads north into the Perlbachtal valley. From Mühlthal, the path leads to Schweinsberg. One kilometer further on, the branch church of St. Peter in Marienstein looks down from a high rock base. In Weismühl, we turn west and reach Birkenau with its chapel (19th century) via Aichhof and on to Martinsneukirchen. From there we head south through woods and meadows to Schillertswiesen. Here we turn onto the former railroad line from Falkenstein to Regensburg and continue in the direction of Falkenstein until shortly after Gfäll. There we leave the former railroad line and turn right onto the Falkenstein-Wiesent cycle path towards Thallern and Postfelden. Near Postfelden is the Hölle nature reserve and the reservoir, which invite you to take a break before heading towards Rettenbach. National winner of the "Our village should become more beautiful" competition. Worth seeing: St. Laurentius parish church (17th/18th century) and the old farmhouses. The route continues via Ebersroith to Arrach with the parish church of St. Valentin. From Arrach, the trail leads us directly to Falkenstein, past the Ölberg Chapel with a magnificent view of Falkenstein Castle. Tip: Every year from the end of June to the beginning of August, the castle courtyard plays are performed in the inner courtyard of the castle.
