Wiegenbachtalweg

From the village square in Gleißenberg, the trail initially follows Chamer Straße towards Ried before turning right in the village up Bergstraße to the Schönberger estate on the edge of the forest. There, the trail turns right past the Gleißenberg water supply reservoir and leads down a romantic forest path into the Wiegenbach valley. A short, steep ascent on a narrow country road then leads up the Steinrieder past the Lehneis estate with its fallow deer enclosure. After the small wood, the circular route branches off to the right onto a small asphalt path. The Way of the Cross with its 14 stations is particularly attractive. This Way of the Cross is a joint effort by all the associations from Gleißenberg, Ried and Gschwand and invites you to linger and reflect before the path leads back into the valley. This hiking trail opens up the north-west of the Gleißenberg valley and circles the idyllic Wiegenbach valley, mostly in the open air. Due to its low altitude difference, it is also ideal for inexperienced hikers. Despite its short length, it offers two magnificent viewpoints along the way: Firstly, hikers have the entire Gleißenberg valley at their feet at the height of the elevated tank at the edge of the forest and a magnificent view of the opposite side with the Gibacht and the Riegelbaum with its 934 m as the former highest point in the Upper Palatinate. From the top of Gleißenberg, hikers can enjoy a magnificent view over Gleißenberg to the Chambtal valley and as far as the Haidstein near Runding and the mountains of the Upper Bavarian Forest.
