Goldsteig S 22 Ruderting – Passau

The last Goldsteig stage starts in Ruderting and leads to Passau. On the natural forest paths, the trail leads over small elevations and stream incisions over footbridges and rooted forest paths along the former Ilz valley railway line (reactivation) down to the Ilz reservoir. From the Mausmühle, the nature trail leads down to the Oberilzmühle dam with bathing area. The next stop is the "Zur Triftsperre" inn and guesthouse. The barrier pillars and the dark drift tunnel, which the hiker is about to pass through, are witnesses to the dangerous timber drift. An imposing footbridge zigzags to the tunnel. By walking through the tunnel, the Goldsteig shortens the Ilz loop and leads within the Ilzbogen to Hals. Shortly before Hals, the ruins of Hals Castle are enthroned on a hill. Over the very last hill, the hiker finally reaches the Veste Oberhaus, a magnificent viewpoint of Passau. The Goldsteig comes full circle at this castle in front of the north gate: this is where the north and south tours of the Goldsteig meet.
