Höhenwanderweg

We start our hike at the village square and walk towards the end of the village (wood carving workshop, multi-generation park). Below the multi-generation park, we turn left into the road to Schafhof. We walk along this road for approx. 800 m and then turn left again and walk towards Aignhof. We immerse ourselves in the aromatic forest air and follow the Ri10 and Ri11 markings, climbing steadily and gently up the edge of the forest. After approx. 500 m, the two paths separate. Here we enjoy a very beautiful panorama. Hiking trail Ri11 branches off to the right and from now on leads uphill in the forest to the forest road called Grenzweg. The last 100 m before the Grenzweg are a little more difficult due to a narrow path and another slight incline. Once we reach the Grenzweg, we now turn east and walk along this forest road, which is easy and flat, until we reach the Seelenbrunnen (rest area with fountain). Here we take a short breather before tackling the last steep section to the summit of the Hohenbogen. About 200 m after the Seelenbrunnen, we turn left onto the Ribenzinger Weg. This now leads us directly and steadily uphill to the Schönblick mountain inn and then on to the Ahornriegel (1050 m). Once we reach the Ahornriegel, we are rewarded for our ascent with a magnificent view down into the valley and far beyond. Less than 100 m further on, the Berghaus Hohenbogen awaits us. This is one of the most beautiful mountain huts in the Bavarian Forest. Refreshed, we continue our high-altitude hike. It takes us along the easy ridge path to the former NATO towers. One of these two towers, the Gipfelsteig viewing platform, can be climbed if the weather is fine. After a further hour's walk, we see a pretty building in a large clearing - the forestry service hut (957 m). We take another break at this popular hiking and excursion destination before tackling the last stage of our day's hike. Together with the Goldsteig, long-distance hiking trail E6 and other local hiking trails, we then hike towards Seelenbrunnen. From here, we return to the starting point in Rimbach along the familiar route.
