Description by the author

We start at the bike pavilion in Cham on the Stadellohe. The cyclists have around 29 km and 690 m of ascent ahead of them. The name sevensummits originally comes from the 7 highest peaks on the 7 continents. There are also 7 peaks (hills) in the urban area around Cham, so it made sense to call this tour sevensummitsCHAM. The interesting thing about the tour is that you can theoretically see the city of Cham from almost every point on the tour. From the bicycle pavilion, we ride across the Stadellohe parking lot to the traffic lights. We cross the junction to the opposite side and are on the cycle path to Chammünster. After just a few hundred meters, we turn right and reach Janahof. Via Janahofer Straße and Vilzinger Straße, we take the Meisenweg to the first ascent. After approx. 350 m, we turn left towards Taschinger Berg. The summit is reached quite quickly and the view from the south towards Cham is phenomenal. The descent towards Tasching is beautiful and whets the appetite for more. The route continues along country lanes towards Gutmaninger Straße and then tackles the second mountain through the village of Gutmaning, past the castle and castle chapel. The Distelberg is climbed via a relatively steep forest path. The single trail downhill towards the village of Hof is great, here the Neubruchweg. We continue towards Lamberger Straße, where we turn right into the hikers' parking lot and then take the Friedrich-Nietzsche-Weg and the Jägersteig up to the Lamberg, the highest point of our tour. There are some challenging passages to master here that require strength and riding technique. After leaving the forest path, we ride the last few hundred meters on the asphalt road to the church of St. Walburga, which invites us to take a short break, as does the inn on the Lamberg, which is also located here. Due to the tree cover, the town of Cham cannot be seen here, but we are rewarded with a view of various peaks of the Bavarian Forest up to the Arber, the king. After this breather, we take the Friedrich Nietzsche trail again behind the church downhill past the transmitter mast. Another single trail with great right-left combinations awaits us here. Via the prehistoric ramparts, a very rough forest path and across the "Sauer-Wiese", we come to Chammünster and the Burgfriede. We continue along the Osterbach stream, Narisker Straße and Pfarrer-Mandl-Straße to Münsterbühl. At the Kapellenbaum natural monument, we turn right and here we can really let the bike run along the field path to the next natural monument, the Braunkreuz. Don't forget to enjoy the view from the south-east towards Cham. Untere Hofinger Straße and the main road through Chammünster lead us directly to the original church of the Bavarian Forest, the Marienmünster. Here, too, it is worth stopping to visit the church and its annexes. The route continues along Piedendorfer Straße towards Altenstadt. Here we again have a great view of Cham, this time from the lowest point of the route from the east. We cross the Regen and Chamb rivers and continue along Reichsburgstraße on gravel towards Windischbergerdorf. In between, the Galgenberg, the 4th hill of our tour, has to be conquered. After the Lamberg, however, this is not a major challenge, so the next destination, the Buchberg, is rather more demanding. Passing the cemetery in Windischbergerdorf, we take the forest road, first on asphalt, then on a beautifully laid out forest path until, after a few hundred meters, we turn left along the Way of the Cross up to the summit of the Buchberg with the old castle ruins. A few stone steps prevent most cyclists from continuing quickly, but perhaps this break is also a chance to catch your breath. The descent is steep and fun, with forest paths, stones and roots challenging us and our bikes. Via the village of Zifling and Waldmünchner Straße, we turn right just before the Nordgaukaserne barracks to cross a meadow path and continue through Cham's city park to Luitpoldhöhe and Kalvarienberg, the last hill on our tour. Here, too, there is always an excellent view of Cham, this time from the north. The last part of the tour then leads through the town of Cham via Katzberger Straße, Dr. Muggenthaler Straße and Johann-Brunner-Straße and the raft harbor back to the starting point. Here in Cham, in addition to the various sights, there are also plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments to recover your energy in the form of a hearty snack and a sip of isotonic drink (aka beer).
