Description by the author

The start is at the "Zisslerkreuz" hiking parking lot. Follow the markings on a slightly ascending forest path. After approx. 150 m, turn left onto a somewhat steeper path. After another 150 m, the path leads to the right. After a few hundred meters, turn left again and then sharp right. After approx. 200 m you will reach the "Rote Marter". Here you will learn interesting facts about history and legends. From the "Rote Marter", the path becomes steeper and continues straight ahead to the summit. Follow the markings to the "Spitzen Stein", a monolith from the Celtic period. The path now continues on a steep ascent to the ramparts. From here it is not far to the church and the inn. The next major signpost is at the Bildstöckl. Now you leave the forest and have the inn directly in front of you. The magnificent view over the entire Bavarian Forest and the beautiful church with its many votive plaques make up for the last steep climb. Passing between the church and the innkeeper's garden, you now head back into the forest and downhill. After approx. 150 m, turn right. Here you will find yourself at the "Predigtstuhl". The path you now follow was built by French prisoners of war and is therefore called "Franzosenweg" by the locals for approx. 150 m. Once you have turned left, the path leads you downhill for approx. 250 m on the tarred road until you reach the forest path on the left, which is approx. 1 km long. This is a leisurely, almost flat walk until you reach the turn-off to the "Black Fountain". You can visit this mystical fountain, but it is not part of the signposted hiking trail. Continue for about 1 km through mixed forest to the "Teufelstritt". You are now almost at the end of the path that Nietzsche and his friend Rohde once walked. After a few hundred meters, you leave the forest and come to a clearing. This is where the two hikers took a last rest and enjoyed the wonderful view of the Cham-Further depression, the Öden tower and Cham. A bench invites you to linger and enjoy the view. Now walk the last few meters along the dirt track until it joins the road. From here, you can decide whether you want to return to the parking lot immediately or make a detour to the "Ödenturm" ruins and inn. The "Friedrich-Nietzsche-Weg parking lot" markings on the left lead you back to the starting point. It is approx. 800 m to the parking lot on a road with little traffic. Turn right to the "Ödenturm". From there, walk downhill across the parking lot. Then keep left and continue straight ahead. At the crossroads, you will come to the "Friedrich-Nietzsche-Weg" signs again, which will lead you back to the starting point. The hiking trail is very well signposted. You will find explanations of the historical background, legends, myths and, of course, Rohde's travelogue at all prominent points.
