Since summer 2012, a new connecting route has made it possible for Goldsteig hikers to hike from the Pröller summit (southern route) to the Arber summit (northern Goldsteig route). From Pröller, the route goes down via Kollnburg to Viechtach, then continues via Neunußberg to Ries, Thalersdorf, Arnbruck / Höbing and then up to Ecker Sattel. The hiker now has the option of either hiking to the Großer Arber or continuing north-west over the Kaitersberg towards Furth im Wald.
