Burgenweg

The Castle Trail stretches over a length of 176 kilometers and leads hikers from Marktredwitz to Waldmünchen. Historic ruins and castles are waiting to be explored in idyllic wooded areas. The trail is lined with attractive viewpoints and romantic villages that can look back on an extensive past. The castle trail begins on the northern slope of the Steinwald in Marktredwitz. The hiking trail first leads to the Weißenstein ruins, where it also crosses the European watershed and then crosses the Wiesau pond basin. As far as Neustadt, the route runs along the Waldnaab through a fascinating river landscape with lush vegetation. The Upper Palatinate Forest is home to numerous castles that seem to be lined up one after the other. Hikers have the opportunity to get to know the castles of Trausnitz, Thanstein, Leuchtenberg, Obermurach and Schwarzenburg and enjoy wonderful views from their locations. Each castle has its own story to tell and makes the castle trail very attractive for those interested in culture. From the village of Rötz, the hiking route leads through the Schwarzach Valley towards Waldmünchen to the southern end of the Upper Palatinate Forest.
