Tour 16: Bad Kötzting - Grub - Kaitersbach - Thalersdorf - Heitzenzell - Wettzell - Höllenstei...

Start in Bad Kötzting, as already described in Route 15. This time the route leads via the Pfingstreiterstraße to the southeast on the Zellertal cycle path into the Zellertal. Leckern is a unique example of a valley hamlet with picturesque gabled-roof log buildings. Following the Kaitersbach stream, we cycle via Weidenhof and Niederndorf to Thalersdorf and then loop back through a densely wooded landscape. Wettzell is home to the Institute of Geodesy with a fundamental station for earth surveying. There is also the Woferlhof Gallery with changing art exhibitions. Sackenried impresses with one of the oldest churches in the Kötztinger Land region. The wild, romantic nature around the Höllensteinsee invites you to linger. Via Ried am See, Felgenholz and Hafenberg we head for the Weißenregen pilgrimage church (rococo building from the mid-18th century) with the famous ship's pulpit by Johannes Paul Hager. At the end of the tour, you can rest again at the Ludwigsberg parking lot (crossroads: entrance to the town) or follow the forest nature trail there.
