The pilgrimage route for cyclists crosses the Czech/Bavarian border at the Vseruby/Eschlkam border crossing (cross-border cycle route 2014). From then on, it is signposted with the official cycle route signage as well as the Way of St. James symbol all the way to Donauwörth. Thanks to the good tourist infrastructure, cyclists will find a sufficient number of rest stops, beer gardens, inns, guesthouses, private guesthouses and hotels along the entire route. The feeder road to the Chambtal cycle path leads from the border directly to Eschlkam and on to Furth im Wald. From Furth im Wald, the route leads through the Further Valley on the mostly flat and very scenic Chambtal cycle path along the Chamb river to Cham. The district town of Cham lies in a loop of the River Regen. It forms the center of the so-called Cham basin, through which the important military and trade route from Regensburg to Prague has run since the time of the Merovingians. The dominant Catholic parish church is dedicated to St. James the Elder. From Cham, the Way of St. James for cyclists uses the Regental cycle path to reach the monastery foundation of Walderbach with the Romanesque church of the former Cistercian monastery via the small town of Roding. Just after Roding, a steep hill spur has to be climbed and descended. The much-visited baroque pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Heilbrünnl is located on the ascent. After passing through Reichenbach, the route then turns south in Tiefenbach and follows the connecting route to the Falkensteiner cycle path in Wald, which leads directly and comfortably downhill to Regensburg on an abandoned railroad line. From Regensburg, there are two route options. The pilgrim can take the very well-known, rewarding and therefore very busy Danube cycle path on the southern bank of the Danube via Kelheim, Weltenburg Monastery, Neustadt a. d. D., Vohburg, Ingolstadt and Neuburg a. d. D. directly to Donauwörth (possibly also on to Ulm). This route, like all the others described above, is also marked with the symbols of the Way of St. James in addition to the respective signposting as a tourist cycle route. Closer to the route for pilgrims on foot is the "Via Raetica" cycle path through the quieter Altmühltal Nature Park. This leaves the Danube cycle path at Eining. You cross the Danube by ferry to Hienheim and then head for Altmannstein. From there, the route continues to Denkendorf, where you cross under the Munich - Nuremberg motorway. Finally, you reach the Altmühl valley in Kipfenberg, which you follow upstream to Eichstätt. From Eichstätt, the route follows the Three Valleys Cycle Route in the scenically impressive primeval valley of the Danube to Rennertshofen, where it rejoins the Danube Valley Cycle Route, which finally leads to Donauwörth. To reach the long-distance destination of Lake Constance, cyclists are best advised to use the "Romantic Road" cycle path from Donauwörth, which runs via Augsburg to Landsberg am Lech (and on towards the Allgäu). From Landsberg, there are several options of varying degrees of difficulty to finally reach Lindau.
