Description by the author

The "Best Views Tour" is definitely the crowning stage of the DSV Nordic Active Center. It starts at the ski lift parking lot (marker no. 2) and follows a beautiful forest road towards the ski lifts. Cross these (please watch out for skiers) and continue uphill along the forest path, past the monument to the Bavarian Forest writer "Friedl Thorward" to the junction. Here we keep left and walk uphill for another 200 meters, where the trail then turns right into the forest towards the border. When we reach the border posts, we come to the most difficult but also most exciting section of the trail, a steep section directly along the border, which gets narrower and narrower as it goes on, but is a scenic treat for any outdoor enthusiast. The end point of this section is the Brombeerriegel border crossing, which cross-country skiers use to get to the Cerchov trail. However, we go straight ahead, walking behind each other so that the cross-country skiers are not hindered, and arrive at the Dreiwappen hiking border crossing. Here, the coats of arms of the Electorate of Bavaria (CB), the Kingdom of Bohemia (KB) and the Duchy of Palatinate (HP) with the year 1766 are carved into the rock from the left at the Three Coats of Arms Rock (901 m), reminding us of the demarcation of the border between Bavaria and Bohemia at that time. The basis for this was the border treaty of March 3, 1764, with which the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa (who was also Queen of Bohemia at the time and acted as such) and the Bavarian Elector Max III Joseph put a bloodless end to centuries of disputes over the exact course of the border. The route continues on lonely paths along a smugglers' trail to the Kreuzfelsen (938 m), the highest elevation in the Gibacht massif with a summit cross and a magnificent view to the east over the Bohemian countryside. The route becomes more and more adventurous and leads us on to the Pfennigfelsen. A small movable door is attached to a rock there, behind which hikers insert coins in the hope that they will always return to this place in good health. From here, there is also a wonderful view down to the town of Waldmünchen and the Ulrichsgrün valley, over to the high-altitude mountain village of Herzogau (679 m), on to the Schwarzwihrberg (706 m) near Rötz as well as the Schneeberg (765 m) and the Frauenstein (865 m) above Tiefenbach. The route continues past the "Bredahittn" to Berghaus Gibacht, where you can enjoy a snack in a cozy setting. The route then takes us uphill to the Tannenriegel to the Lighthouse of Humanity, built by Gibacht landlord Ralf Wenzl. Now we walk to the next vantage point, which is one of the most beautiful in the Bavarian Forest in good weather, the glass cross on the Reißeck. Here you can see the Bavarian Forest mountains Hohenbogen, Osser and Arber, as well as the Further Drachensee, which was flooded in 2010. From the Glaskreuz, it's all downhill via the Steinerne Bründl to the start and finish point at the parking lot of the former Voithenberg Castle. After this strenuous tour, every athlete can enjoy refreshments in the Liftstüberl or in the Schloßwirtschaft Voithenberg.
