Grenzweg

From the village square, we walk along Böhmerwaldstraße along a pedestrian path to the Rittsteig sports field, turn left there and follow the road at Böhmhöhe until we reach a single farmstead, turn right after it and, after a climb, come to the Hanger chapel with a rest area. We continue along the Way of the Cross, keep left and reach a small road via a meadow path, turn right and continue to the junction with Böhmerwaldstraße (which leads to the state border), where we turn left to the former customs house. At this house we turn right and walk along the border road through the forest, then through Gschwend and later past the Angelmühle (formerly called Bayerische Mühle). Here you are very close to the Angelbach stream, which forms the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. The mill has been closed down, but the agricultural estate still exists. We walk on to the road that leads left to Helmhof (in Helmhof there is a hiking border crossing to Hamry/CZ). However, we turn right. After a hill, we come out of the forest, walk past the Steinriegel and already have the village in view. Here you can make a detour to the Baumann chapel by turning right onto the dirt road. From this spot, you can still see the abandoned farms around the Rantscherberg for a long time. After the detour, we walk back to Rittsteig along the road. Parking is available at the fire station or at the Rittsteig sports field.
