Ramsbeck Circular Trail (R2)

A mining hiking trail that is unique in Germany. In October 2011, at the initiative of the Förderverein Sauerländer Besucherbergwerk Ramsbeck, the mining hiking trail Ramsbeck was opened. Over a distance of 10 km, you pass by all the essential mining relics of the former lead and zinc mines. It is possible to trace the ore extraction, ore processing, and smelting of the ores historically and technically.

Information boards are located at all significant points, providing information in text and images, explaining remaining architectural monuments, buildings, tunnels, and relics (also excellently prepared on the internet at www.foerderverein-sauerlaender-besucherbergwerk.de).

Outstanding are the Venetian tunnel, with a history of over 1,000 years, one of the oldest mine structures north of the Alps, and the smoke exhaust chimney.

The mining hiking trail always runs close to the village of Ramsbeck, allowing the trail to be easily walked in sections. A number of seating areas and benches invite you to take a break.

The trail starts at the Sauerländer Besucherbergwerk and is very well signposted with the inscription "Bergbau-Wanderweg."
