Itterberg-Rundweg

The Itterberg circular trail offers an extensive hiking route with a challenging ascent at the beginning. It runs through closed forests, but also offers open sections of trail.

Hikers will find rest areas and huts at several points with wonderful views of the town, the Neckar Valley and the Odenwald.

Start at the nature park hiking board at Hohenstaufen-Gymnasium Eberbach. Follow the "yellow 1" for the entire circular tour. The hike initially starts in a south-westerly direction, then shortly afterwards turns right into the "Am Itterberg" cul-de-sac and begins the ascent towards the forest. After approx. 100 m, the path turns right immediately after the forest entrance. This is followed by a longer section of the trail, which leads steeply up the mountain in a characteristic zig-zag course through partly dense tree cover. You will cross several wide forest paths along the way. However, continue to follow the "yellow 1". After approx. 1.5 km, you will reach the Albrecht-von-Göler-Hütte, the first rest area with an impressive view of the town and the Neckar valley. Following the "yellow 1", after approx. 1.6 km you will reach the rest point "An der Ruhe", also known as the "Rondell", via a flat to slightly inclined earth and gravel path. From here, the path continues in a north-easterly direction and offers views of the highest point in the Odenwald, the "Katzenbuckel" at 626 m above sea level, in a south-easterly direction. Before the path leads downhill in an easterly direction after approx. 1.4 km, another beautiful view opens up of the Sensberg in the Hessian Odenwald, 480 m above sea level above Hebstahl. With the "yellow 1" in view, you reach the "Bauriedhütte" after 2.4 km via a gravel forest path, the last rest stop with equally impressive views of the town and the surrounding countryside. As you continue down the valley, you will reach a paved road after approx. 2 km, which leads you back to the starting point of the "Itterberg circular route" after approx. 500 m in a southerly direction.
