Description by the author

The starting point of the cycle route is Lindau on Lake Constance. From here, the route continues into the hilly Alpine foothills of the Allgäu. The route leads past the Großer Alpsee lake to Immenstadt, continuing through quaint villages and pretty little towns, it is worth stopping off in Füssen. In Hohenschwangau, a visit to the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, built by Ludwig II, is an absolute highlight.

It is also worth taking a short detour to southern Germany's most famous rococo church - the Wieskirche, which has been a World Heritage Site since 1983. It is located slightly off the route in Pfaffenwinkel. From there, the route continues through the Altenauer Moos and Murnauer Moos nature reserves to Murnau am Staffelsee. Here, art lovers in particular will get their money's worth at the Franz Marc Museum. After a few kilometers, you reach Benediktbeuern and continue to Bad Tölz with its historic market street.

The cycle path now leads via Tegernsee and Schliersee to Lake Chiemsee, which invites you to take a boat trip and a walk on the Fraueninsel. A visit to the royal castle "Herrenchiemsee" is also an absolute must. Further along the route, towns such as Traunstein and Bad Reichenhall will impress you. Then it's finally done. From Berchtesgaden, it's just a stone's throw to the destination of the cycle route: Königssee, known the world over for its pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä.

Author's tip:

Nature, culture and tradition - the cycle route takes you through the most popular vacation regions of the Allgäu and Upper Bavaria.

Plan enough time: for a break with a panoramic view of the mountains, for a dip in one of the refreshingly clear lakes, a hike to a mountain pasture and a stop for a hearty snack. Immerse yourself in the lively life of the villages and towns. Visit one of the many traditional festivals or relax in the tranquillity of one of the baroque monasteries.
