We start the circular walk at the train station and walk along the footpath and cycle path along the edge of the Selbitz valley to the Froschgrün bridge, where we cross the railroad line to Bad Steben towards Froschgrün. Our path divides here and we turn right.
After Froschgrüner Park and the old people's home, we follow the Griesbacher Weg to the left to the edge of the town and continue through alternating sections of forest to the "center" of Grießbach. There we turn right and walk uphill along a field path, past bushes and rows of trees, along a natural forest path and slightly uphill in the forest to the heights, where we turn left at the edge of the forest and reach the elevated reservoir above Rothleiten. At the other end of the village is the Frankenwaldverein hiking home, which can be reached via the hiking home circuit (US 77, 600m easy).
If we stay on our path, we take a sharp left into the forest at the elevated reservoir.
The forest path leads us up through the Issigau natural cemetery until we leave the forest at the transmission mast, the so-called "Siren", and reach the "Siren". "
For information on the PV system, cross the road and follow the field path straight ahead until you reach a crossroads on the hill before Issigau. Here, the Franconian Mountain Trail - which has accompanied us for some distance - continues straight on to Issigau. However, we turn left and continue to hike with beautiful views of the surrounding Franconian Forest landscape until we reach a meadow orchard and then take the field path to the right downhill to the road. As we now turn left along this composite surface past the two houses of Heinrichsdorf, the views make up for the hard ground. After the estates, we continue along the unpaved road to the Plank inn in Marxgrün. Before reaching the inn, we turn left into Grießbacher Straße and follow it out of town, turning right into Selbitztal about 150 m after the town sign.
At the end of Marxgrün, we pass the Löwel estate. It commemorates the former Kommerzienrat Ernst Abraham Löwel (1746-1801), who ran his huge "empire" from here before the end of the heyday of mining. In 1780, the Margrave's government in Bayreuth appointed him a councillor of commerce. The family history can be traced back almost seven centuries to Silesia (Knight Konrad Loebel at Sendowel Castle). Today, Maria Löwel lives on the estate - with a late baroque cabinet from the estate of E.A. Löwel.
We hike along a path past the White Rock across the narrow valley floor of the Grießbach stream near where it flows into the Selbitz. We continue along the edge of the valley on a field path and finally on a paved footpath and cycle path back to Naila. When we see the first houses, we do not use the railroad crossing to the left, but continue straight ahead on a path and reach the other side of the railroad line through a small underpass. Through a playground and the small Froschgrüner Park, we now return to our starting point at the station.</p
