Klausenquelle-Weg KC 32

A particular attraction is the beautiful site at the Klausen spring, where it is worth taking a short break. The water comes to the west of Gestungshausen and emerges around 50 m above the Klausen spring. The spring was collected there in 1970 by the Gestungshausen fruit and horticultural association and led to the newly built Klausen fountain via a pipeline as the Klausen spring. The spring, located in the meadow and forest area, runs all year round and is of drinking water quality. The water flows to the Bertholdsbach, which flows into the Steinach. Note: If you want to save the connection from Mitwitz to Steinach and back, you can start and end the hike at the playground in Steinach.

From the large parking lot, we hike across the Mühlgraben on a footpath along the Steinach to the nearby street village of Steinach a. d. Steinach, located on the 433 m high Hassenberg.

East of this, we see the wide basin formed by Steinach and Föritz. It separates the Obermainische Bruchschollenland from the North Franconian Keuper and Lias landscape.

We follow a path up to the village road. We cross it and reach the playground on the road at the end of the village. There we walk along the edge of the meadow near a hollow path up to the last house. There we turn right across the hollow path and a small meadow to a forest path, which we follow uphill for a long time. Our circular trail continues uphill on forest paths until shortly before the summit. There we separate from the European long-distance hiking trail and turn left. On easy forest paths, we continue along the slope in the forest to the Steinacher Berg and the transmission mast. From now on, the circular hiking trail leads slightly downhill in the forest. After a longer stretch, the hiking trail turns off the forest path onto a path to the left and leads to the beautiful Klausenquelle spring. It is not known whether people once settled here or just fetched their drinking water there.

Follow the forest path slightly downhill until you reach the Klausenweg in Gestungshausen. At the edge of the village, we follow this local road to the end of the village and hike along the Kirchsteig past the boundary stone and then back to Steinach together with the Mitwitzer Runde circular hiking trail (KC 34). Before that, we have a beautiful view as we exit the forest: Mitwitz with the Jakobskirche church, behind it the western side of the Haßlach mountains (from Rotschreuth to Haig) and to the left the foothills of the Thuringian Forest. We return to the starting point in Mitwitz via the same route.</p
