Römertour Via Claudia Augusta

Salute cyclists! Ready to go? Then first off to the Roman Museum "Abodiacum" in Epfach. Remember: The Via Claudia Augusta was built almost 2000 years ago as the only imperial state road across the Alps and led from the Po via Trento and Augsburg to the Danube. Today, a cycle path follows the traces of the Roman road from Donauwörth to Füssen and on to Austria. Cycle a section of history! From Epfach via Kinsau, Hohenfurch, Altenstadt, Schongau and Burggen to Dessau, always follow the "Via Claudia Augusta" signs. The magnificent Alpine panorama keeps you entertained along the way. A must for culture vultures: the Romanesque basilica in Altenstadt and the medieval old town of Schongau. The hilly forest route to Dessau will test your stamina. Sports enthusiasts can continue straight ahead on the "Via Claudia" along the Lech and via Lechstaustufe 3, Urspring, Steingädele, Prem, Lechbruck, Sameister, Nachsee and Eschach to the foot of the Auerberg. Significantly shorter: turn right in Dessau and up the steep mountain to Bernbeuren. A great challenge for mountain enthusiasts: the Auerberg. Not without its challenges, this ascent. But what a panoramic view from the summit! The tour itself continues to the right at the foot of the Auerberg via the small hamlets of Prachtsried, Reinharden and Remnatsried. The "Auerbergland" signposts lead to Rettenbach and on via Ingenried to Sachsenried, where the trail climbs steeply once again. Extensive forests as far as the eye can see. From Schwabsoien the final spurt on an unpaved forest path through the "Breite Tal" to Epfach. 60 kilometers - now a Roman drink!
