From Steingaden, walkers roam the quiet meadows and forests west of the former monastery village, mostly on asphalt and forest roads with little traffic. Behind Litzau, there are wonderful views of the Ammergau Alps. Finally, accompanied by a magnificent view of the Wieskirche, the route heads directly towards the famous pilgrimage church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not far from the Wies village square begins what is perhaps the most charming section of the tour, the Brettleweg. It leads over narrow wooden planks through the picturesque Wiesfilz before heading back to Steingaden through deep forests and sometimes idyllically along the stream.
Be sure to plan a visit to the Wieskirche church and the Welfenmünster cathedral in Steingaden!
After prolonged rainfall, the wooden planks through the Wiesfilz can be flooded. It is therefore better to walk in dry weather!
IMPORTANT NOTE! As a section of the path leads over the partly swampy and wet moor on wooden planks approx. 30 cm wide, it is NOT suitable for bicycles and baby carriages.
