Jakobsweg Etappe 2b: Bernried - Polling

The path leads south from the monastery area through the gate to the bridle path. However, take the uphill Dorfstraße on the right. After the Raiffeisenbank, the path leads left up Bahnhofstraße via the bypass and right at the station into Zugspitzstraße. At the end of the road, turn left towards Bauerbach. Outside the village, turn left uphill at the solitary beech tree, through the forest, past a lake to a fish pond. Now up to the Nussberg farm. After the Sebastian Chapel and before the farm, turn left onto the field path, past further ponds, through forest and high moorland to Jenhausen with its baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on the hill.

After the end of the village, turn right down the valley, right across the valley floor and up again on a steep, stony path, directly to the state road in Magnetsried, the former station on the Roman road. Turn right up to the church of St. Margaretha with a St. Christopher on the outside wall. Before the church, turn right towards Ungertsried, across meadows and a somewhat difficult high moorland forest down to Marnbach and the church of St. Michael. Back to the main road and downhill towards the west to the end of the village, take the road "Am Hechenried" to the left and walk past the sports field to Deutenhausen. From Deutenhausen, take the road to the south, turn right at the crossroads, keep right at the next fork in the forest and turn left at the second fork. At the end of the forest, where the view sweeps freely into the valley, turn right at the edge of the forest up the meadow, past the water catchment, straight ahead and finally onto the forest path, which ends in a trim trail. From the inn, take the road down to the town of Weilheim.

On Weinhartstraße into the town, continue along Alpenstraße, change sides and then turn right into Murnauer Straße to continue along the former prelate's path. Weilheim was an important town on the Verona-Augsburg trade route in the Middle Ages. A visit to the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the even older church of St. Pölten (Leopold) is recommended.

On the Prälatenweg, the path leads directly from Weilheim to Polling Monastery. Shortly before Polling, the signposted path leads to a detour to the chapel in honor of St. James from1997 and to the place where the first monastery in Polling stood: The paved path leads up to the left to the chapel. There is a stop at the chapel on the Pfaffenwinkel Holy Landscape pilgrimage trail. The path continues eastwards from the Jakobuskapelle until it meets the crossroads that leads into the Polling district of St. Jakob. On the Eisenschmiedweg, the pilgrim first turns left onto the main road, then right onto Römerstraße and finally right onto St.-Jakobs-Straße. At this point, you are also at the junction of two former Roman roads, the one from Kleinhelfendorf to Kempten and the one from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Augsburg. Now continue straight ahead along Steinbruchstraße and turn right along the main road to Pollinger Kloster. If you don't want to take this small detour, you can also simply continue straight ahead at the junction towards St. Jakob and walk directly to Polling Monastery.
