Mountainbike 6 Steinachtal

Route description: Conditionally demanding tour through beautiful countryside, mainly on gravel and partly asphalt, challenging short trail/single trail passages. Signposting on site: MTB 6

Requirements: Difficult fitness level, medium riding technique

Trail conditions: 75% forest path, 5% trail, 20% asphalt

Trail route: From the town hall in Presseck on asphalt to Premeusel. Then a short gravel descent that turns directly into a climb. On the "Galgenberg" we come out of the forest, after a short ride on the flat, a trail follows downhill to Wildenstein. Continue on asphalt towards "Gasthof Neumühle" into the valley floor. Before the inn, take a sharp right into the wild and romantic "Steinachtal" valley. We ride along the valley directly through the "Steinachklamm", an impressive rock formation. Continue on gravel and past an old paper factory until shortly before Stadtsteinach. A beautiful, challenging singletrail ascent follows at a hikers' parking lot. Then relatively flat on gravel and asphalt to the next, sometimes very steep climb to Vorderreuth. The little-used local road leads us to Deckenreuth. From there on gravel to the next trail descent, which ends in the "Zettlitztal". The ascent to Wartenfels is on a dirt track (muddy in extremely wet conditions). Passing through the village on a narrow, asphalted "Steig" leads us onto a gravel, later earth-bound agricultural road. The following asphalt passage ends shortly before the "Daigmühle". From here, follow a gravel forest path to Reichenbach. After the village, there is a short section on gravel, followed by a trail and another gravel descent that ends in Schmölz. Cross the Köstenbach stream there to tackle the next ascent. On the hill we reach Köstenhof, which we immediately leave behind us again downhill, first on asphalt and then on a short section of rough gravel. After a few meters on the descent, a challenging trail/single trail ascent awaits. After leaving the forest on the hill, the following asphalt passage is just right to let the bikes roll. We ride through Elbersreuth on the main road and follow the local road towards Presseck. Leave the road at a detached house and follow the partly dirt road uphill to Presseck. A detour to the "Pressecker Knock" viewing tower is a welcome change at the end of the tour.
