Mountainbike 2 Rennsteig-Region WEST

Attention: Due to forestry work, the trail from Landleitenweg to Aumühle in Steinbach/Hirschfeld cannot be used for approx. 200 m. The section is currently being used as a back lane for forestry work. You have to push on this section. (as of May 2022)

Trail description: Ideal tour for "rolling in": no major gradients, some short trails / single trails and varying surfaces, short stepped section. Scenic route through the extensive forests of the Franconian Forest region. Signposting on site: MTB 2

Requirements: Medium fitness level, medium riding technique.

Trail condition: 70% forest trail, 20% single trail, 10% asphalt.

Route: From the railroad bridge in Steinbach a.W. on gravel to the B 85. Follow this for about 200m over another railroad bridge (be careful - busy road!). Continue along above the railroad line until the next ascent. Continue along the "Alte Heeresstraße" and the "Seenweg" on gravel to the "Ölschnitzsee". Another forest path leads us to a 300 m long asphalt passage. After another gravel section in a small, visually appealing valley, we take a dirt path along the edge of the forest. We briefly use the legendary "Rennsteig" and reach a beautiful singletrail descent to Kleintettau via another gravel section. We ride briefly downhill on the local road. Then on a gravel forest road, which winds beautifully along the slope, through the extensive forests to Schauberg; there are always short trails or single trails along the route; before Schauberg we take on one kilometer of asphalt. CAUTION: Shortly before Schauberg, a single trail ends in very steep steps! Cross a bridge in the village, immediately followed by an asphalt climb, which becomes a dirt road/field path in the upper section. Then tackle another short climb on gravel and descend into the "Aubachtal" valley. Cross the "Aubach" on a bridge and follow the forest path up the valley. After crossing the local road, a short trail section follows. After just a few meters on a gravel path, the next trail/single trail descent down to the "Kummbach" awaits. Cross this on a beautiful old stone bridge, pass the forester's lodge and follow the gravel path up the valley. Shortly before Hirschfeld, the surface changes to asphalt. After the end of the village, the surface changes between asphalt (uneven, with potholes) and gravel. Back in Steinbach a.W., follow the main road to the traffic circle and from there downhill to the railroad bridge.
