Description by the author

The hike begins in Wolfersgrün, a district of Wallenfels. Wolfersgrün is one of the youngest clearing settlements of the 11th to 13th centuries (a so-called "hilltop settlement"). In the Bamberg bishop's surbarium of 1323/27, Wolfersgrün is listed as belonging to the Waldenfels castle estate. And an addendum to the bishop's register from 1348 states that several deserted (= uninhabited) villages, including Wolfersgrün, have been re-established.

Starting at the former school building, we walk up the road a little and turn left into Dorfstraße. Follow this road to the southern end of the village. The well-maintained ridgeway takes us over the cleared plateau (588 above sea level) to Wellesberg. On the way, we come across hemp fields in summer. Varieties without intoxicating effects have been cultivated in Wolfersgrün for several years.

Magnificent views over the densely wooded mountain slopes of the surrounding area are offered to hikers. Several stone martens with Christian motifs line the path to Wellesberg. The pub is worth a stop (closed on Thursdays).

From Wellesberg, the Lamitzpfad trail leads north along a forest path and a short section of local road back into the forest. The path continues over cleared areas and through coniferous forests into the rear Lamitz valley. When we reach the road, we first keep right and then turn left before crossing the valley. At 436 m, we have now reached the lowest point of the hike.

The Lamitztal is one of the most pristine meadow valleys in the Franconian Forest, with its incomparable flora and fauna. Even the rare black storks come here to breed. Enjoy the tranquillity and seclusion of the unspoilt valley.

A slightly longer detour along the path to the old raft pond is worthwhile. To do this, do not turn left at the memorial stone after the small bridge, but stay on the valley path. After 1.8 km we reach the former raft pond. If we follow the Schanzenbinderweg (blue diagonal) on the way back, we return to the Wolfersgrüner Runde below the Scheibenberg.

Without the detour, we turn left at the memorial stone and hike steadily uphill through extensive mixed forests and along meadow paths on the Scheibenberg back to the starting point in Wolfersgrün.

Before reaching the village, wonderful views invite us to rest again.
