Rund um Schloss Seehof - Schwarze Raute

Important note:

The stone bridge between Hauptsmoorwald and Seehof Castle is completely closed with immediate effect. Reason: the bridge is in danger of collapsing. A detour for stage 5 of the Seven Rivers Trail, the Rennsteig Trail and the Black Rhombus Trail will be marked as soon as possible.

Start/Finish: Memmelsdorf, Seehof Castle car park

The circular trail leads from the former summer residence of the prince-bishops at Seehof Castle to several Franconian inns and beer cellars. A detour leads to the "Figure in Focus" sculpture trail.

We park at the motorhome parking lot between Seehof Castle and Seehofhalle and head south-east. Turn left into Ringstraße, right into "Am Schlossgraben", then right and immediately right again into Seehofstraße and along the edge of the village towards Meedensdorf. In Meedensdorf, turn right southwards at the fire station and after 1 km turn left towards Schammelsdorf.

In Schammelsdorf follow the signs via Meedensdorfer / Pödeldorfer Str. / Steinäcker, here take the small path on the right to Langwiesenweg. Follow the path past the ASV Naisa sports grounds to Pödeldorf on Schammelsdorfer Straße.

If you want to enjoy art instead of the forest on the way back, walk to the right along the footpath and cycle path between Pödeldorf and Memmelsdorf towards Seehof. Eight international artists created stone sculptures here in 2009 as part of the "Figure in Focus" symposium.

The "black diamond" markings lead us through parts of the main moorland forest. From Schammelsdorfer Straße, turn right into Bamberger Straße in the direction of Bamberg. At house no. 36, turn right and walk into the forest. Keep right at the junction and immediately right again.

Parallel to BA 5, the route now follows beautiful forest paths past Ottensee, Pulversee and fish ponds (private land, please do not feed the fish!). We reach Seehof Castle with its magnificent park, keep right past the park walls and are now back at the starting point.
