Burbling water, colorful flowers, grazing cows in the meadow, beautiful views: The monastery route around the cloth maker town of Monschau is perfect for a day in nature. The path is surrounded by sights such as the impressive Engelsley and Teufelsley rocks, the wild-romantic Rur valley, the floodplain landscape around Kalterherberg, or the Perlenbachtal. The whole experience is enhanced by the very diverse flora and fauna that is unmatched throughout Germany.
By the way: If you hike the monastery route in spring, make sure to take a look at the daffodil hill near Reichenstein. It is a unique experience when the first signs of spring stretch their heads towards the sun and the vegetation becomes a vast sea of flowers again.
