The Felsenmeer ("sea of rocks") in the Odenwald is a fascinating natural geological formation consisting of huge diorite boulders scattered over a large area, created by millions of years of geological weathering and erosion. It is a popular hiking and climbing destination, offering a unique experience of scrambling over massive rocks and exploring ancient trails in a scenic forest setting.
The site has historical significance as it was used by the Romans as a quarry for stone extraction, and there are over 320 Roman-era works and artifacts around the area.
The hike includes routes that climb directly over the boulders or more gentle trails around them, with several points of interest such as the Siegfriedsquelle spring, linked to local legend, and the Altar Stone.
