Deutsche Alpenstrasse - German Alpine Route

Winding over 450 km from Lindau on Lake Constance to Schönau on Lake Königssee, the route enchants all from bikers to mobile-home travellers, to those with their roofs down. This fascinating route is full of variety: a rhythm of lush alpine meadows, soft rolling hills, towering mountain tops, thick green woods, romantic valleys and glistening lakes. As our way nestles amongst the quaint farming villages and historic towns, we discover the magnificent Bavarian Alps.
Over 25 ancient castles, monasteries and picturesque palaces invite you to linger. Over 20 crystal-clear mountain lakes are not only a thrilling sight, but also packed with sports and leisure possibilities. Running parallel to the road is the Lake Königssee - Lake Constance Cycle route, a sporting challenge where depending upon their condition, pedalling knights discover and conquer the 'Allgäu Holiday El Dorado'.
Renowned historical spa towns with strong cultural monuments provide numerous breaks along twisting roads with breath-taking scenery. This uniquely rich environment couples both nature and culture along the fringe of the Allgäu and Bavarian Alps - a love for which we'll discover is not only the reserve of mountaineers.
Hikers will appreciate, most of all in late summer, the well maintained high alpine trails - though the hard work of getting there may often be avoided with cable-cars and chairlifts. This superb network of mountain trails leads to sights of impervious castles, sumptuous palaces, idyllic churches and tranquil monasteries - choice for everyone. Nature's beauty, wonders and mysteries all unlock with the simplicity of having an open heart, as will the folk that live here too.
