Eifelsteig - Stage 9 from Hillesheim to Gerolstein

Right at the beginning of the hike you have to take a break after a few meters. When leaving the crime town of Hillesheim, you walk directly towards the remains of the historic city wall, which are also accessible and offer a beautiful view. You also don't have to wait long for the next attraction.

On the outskirts of the village begins the Boldsorfertal, which is a real pleasure for hiking enthusiasts with a lake, its limestone cliffs and the Hillesheimer Bach. Not much later, the Eifelsteig hikers arrive at the Kyll for the first time, cross it and follow a steep climb through the forest to the interesting ice and grindstone caves on the Rotherkopf. With further views over the gentle hilly landscape of the Eifel, it first goes downhill again, a little later he climbs the Auberg with its impressive rocks.

Under the mountain is already the stage destination Gerolstein, but before you hike to the village, you first go up to the so-called Gerolstein Dolomites. Spectacular rock formations enclose the road and at the same time form a viewpoint that is worth the effort. After a hike on an interesting geopath to the Karstgrot Buchenloch and the volcanic crater Papenkaule, the ninth Eifelsteig stage ends with a steep serpentine descent back into the valley of the Kyll in Gerolstein.
