Description by the author

Lormecke Tower. Parking : Parking lot "Lörmecke-Turm" on the B55 between Warstein and Meschede (signposted). In the truest sense of the word, the 35-metre-high Lörmecketurm can be described as a highlight and at the same time as a symbol of the Sauerland forest road. I recorded this walk on 31Julli 2016 with GPS AND posted it on December 20, 2019!  https://www.outdooractive.com/de/route/wanderung/sauerland/loermecke-turm-der-wanderhoehepunkt-an-der-waldroute-/2983463/

Surrounded by the lush greenery of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park, the forest, water and stone town of Warstein is characterized by a variety of hiking trails. The approx. 6.5 km long hiking trail described here leads along the historic trade route "Plackweg" to the Lörmecketurm, over the annual tree-lined avenue over the Kapellplatz with chapel and over the plant-rich Wideytal back to the parking lot.

Lörmecke Tower:
At the highest point of the Arnsberg Forest, between Warstein and Meschede, lies 581 m above sea level the landmark of the Sauerland Forest Route: the Lörmecketurm, which owes its name to the headwaters of the Lörmecke at its feet. The building, which is unique in Europe, made of cruciform trunks and steel rings, was erected in the form of a so-called translational paraboloid and, despite its height of 35 m, appears airy and filigree.
From 3 viewing platforms, which deliberately do not give any direction, you have a beautiful 360° panoramic view over the Hochsauerland, the Haarstrang and the Westphalian Bay to the Teutoburg Forest.

Build data
Tower height: 35 m, base diameter: approx. 7 m, number of steps: 204, weight: approx. 80 t, construction period: 5 months, building material: Douglas and steel, location: 581 m above sea level. NN (highest point of the Arnsberg Forest), inauguration: 7 June 2008, design and structural engineering: architect Joh.-Ulrich Blecke, Dr.-Ing. Michael Maas

Chapel Square:
Elector Archbishop Clemens August of Cologne once built a hunting chapel for the Prince-Bishops of Cologne on this square. They serve them for elaborate liturgical purposes during elaborate hunts. Today there is only one memorial stone. Not forgetting that in 2004 a new chapel was built near it. A small avenue with annual trees leads to the square.

Cotton grass meadow:
on the track.
Eriophorum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cyperaceae. The plants mainly inhabit wetlands. Their inflorescences each consist of one or more multi-flowered spikelets. The long filament strands of the fruit form the characteristic white to orange wool tip of the cotton grasses. The "cotton balls" that characterize the aspect do not show the plants in their flowering state, as is often assumed, but in the fertile state.
