You begin your tour on the topic of city fortifications in the center of the old town, at the marketplace in front of the bookstore. The marketplace is particularly lively and attractive on Saturdays during the weekly market, enriched by the monthly market music at the nearby St. Agatha Church.
08 GS Dorsten Market
With a view of the carillon house, you leave the marketplace and turn right towards Lippestraße. You will find the next historical station almost at the end of this street, located on the right side. Very subtly, you can also discover a hint of the historic site of the Lippetor in the pavement at this spot.
42 GS Lippetor
At the end of the pedestrian zone, you turn left towards Westwall and reach the next station shortly next to the remains of the stump tower and the city wall.
37 GS City Fortifications
You follow the Westwall to the height of Klosterstraße and keep to the right there to follow the parallel Westwall. There, awaiting you in front of the war memorial (former wall tower) is the next historical station.
26 GS Shooting Tradition
Continue along the Westwall, which leads into Gahlener Straße. By crossing the pedestrian traffic light, you reach a small square with a fountain that invites you to take a break and holds the next historical station.
43 GS Essener Gate
You return via the pedestrian traffic light towards Essener Straße. Before the beginning of the pedestrian zone, turn right into Südgraben. After walking along the wall and ditch system to where it meets the pedestrian zone Recklinghäuser Straße, you will find, on the right side between the department store and Johanneskirche, the Platz der Deutschen Einheit, at the back part of which a cube refers to the historical significance of this place. Unfortunately, there is still no historical station at this point. This spot was where the so-called Recklinghäuser Tor was located, the third city gate, and it could also perhaps be called the livestock gate of the city, as before this gate there was the city's common land in the Middle Ages.
Finally, you now walk along Recklinghäuser Straße towards the marketplace. You will find the last historical station in the arcade area of the Old Town Hall. The future of this historically significant building is secured by the support association Altes Rathaus with a wide range of cultural offerings.
