The border region and the south of the country were characterized by the many coal mines and their garbage heaps. In the Netherlands they have almost disappeared, but in Belgium and Germany they are still prominent. It's worth it for a nice hike to some of these mountains and we partially climb one to see the others. The walk leads through fields and forest paths and lots of nature.
