Køge Å

Køge Å has a gently meandering course through Køge Ådal. It starts south of Regnemark Mose and flows out into Køge Bugt, a total length of 20.6 km. From being a small stream, the river becomes up to 10 m wide at its outlet.

Regnemark Waterworks is owned and operated by Copenhagen Energy (Copenhagen Municipality). The waterworks supplies large parts of Copenhagen and the northern municipalities along Køge Bugt with drinking water. Water extraction began in 1965.

Regnemark Mose

Regnemark Mose lies in the depressions on both sides of Køge Ås. At the beginning of the last century, the marsh appeared as grazed meadows and moist reed swamps. The lakes were first formed during extensive peat extraction during World War I and especially World War II, when there was a shortage of fuel. In the 1950s, grazing and haymaking ceased, and reed swamp and bushes spread throughout the marsh.

Regnemark Banke

In one of the large tunnel valleys in Zealand lies Køge Ås, which is one of Denmark's few large ridges. The ridge is seen as a series of elongated hills in a winding course through the landscape. Regnemark Banke is one of the hills, and parts of it can be followed from Vester Ringvej to the outlet.

Kimmerslev

Kimmerslev had 6 farms, 1 water mill and stub mill, a blacksmith, and a church in the 1820s and was a medium-sized village. Today, only 3 farms remain, including the mill farm.

Kimmerslev Church

Kimmerslev Church is located on a ridge right by Kimmerslev Lake. The church may have served as a refuge in times of unrest. The church dates back to the 12th century and is one of Zealand's oldest churches.

Borup

Borup is the main town of the region with about 3,109 inhabitants. The town probably originated in the early Middle Ages around the year 1300. At that time, the country was characterized by economic development and population growth, and many new villages were established. Just 150 years ago, before the railway era, the town consisted of 6 farms, 10 houses, a school, a rectory, and a church.
