Fray Antón de Montesinos was a Spanish Dominican missionary and friar who, together with the first community of Dominicans in America, at the head of his vicar Fray Pedro de Córdoba, distinguished himself in the denunciation and fight against the abuse, exploitation and inhuman treatment to which the indigenous people were subjected by the Spanish colonizers on the island of Hispaniola. and that caused the subsequent conversion of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas to the defense of the Indians.
Montesino proclaimed to the conquerors "that you are all in mortal sin and in it you live and die, because of the cruelty and tyranny you use with these innocent people."
It was the first defense of Human Rights in America.
