Since the coup in 1937, the Telephone Building had been in the hands of the Anarchists. Every phone call was wiretapped. If the contents of the listener were not to their liking, the line would be disconnected. On May 3, 1937, the Communists attacked the Anarchists. The Communists took refuge in the Hotel Colon, across from the Telephone Building. A large street battle broke out here but was stopped by Minister Frederica Montseney, who halted his own party, the Anarchists.
