Torrellas de Foix is a municipality and locality in the comarca of Alto Panadés, province of Barcelona, autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain.
Torrellas de Foix is a municipality in the comarca of Alto Panadés located in the eastern sector of it, at 368 meters above sea level. It has an approximate area of thirty-seven square kilometers and 2,338 inhabitants, who are distributed among the different populated centers, as well as several isolated farmhouses scattered throughout the municipal term. The place of Torrellas belonged to the term of the ancient castle of Foix, documented in 1067, which later belonged to Berant Marcús, advisor to Ramón Berenguer IV. It was mentioned for the first time in 1185. In 1198, Guillem de la Granada granted the Castle of Foix to Guillem de Tarragona and left some lands for his executors to build a church in honor of God and the Virgin Mary. The castle of Foix subsequently belonged to the crown. In 1388, King Juan I of Aragon sold it to Bernat Galceran de Pinós and de Fenollet. Agraïda de Vilafranca, lady of Foix and Torrellas, had a daughter, Maria Agraïda de Cruïlles and de Vilafranca who in 1480 married Guerau de Peguera and de Montbui. In the early 16th century, the place of Foix belonged to the Peguera family, who settled there. Guerau de Peguera and Berardo was appointed the first marquis of Foix in 1710 by the Archduke claimant Charles of Austria. The lineage of the Peguera family became extinct with María Manuela de Peguera and de Pedrolo, who died unmarried in 1881 and left her estate to the Salesians. This population has increased considerably in recent years mainly due to the conversion of summer houses in urbanizations into primary residences.
