Vilavert is a Spanish municipality located in the Catalan comarca of the Cuenca de Barberá, Tarragona. Its population in 2008 was 490 inhabitants. It is on the bank of the Francolí River.
The first document of human presence in this area corresponds to a shelter with prehistoric rock paintings of the so-called schematic art, whose authors were Neolithic producer groups. It is located in the Barranc del Mal Torrent or del Mal Pas. Some abstract forms, conventionally called digital bars, are preserved in red, and could be classified, from an artistic definition, as a gestural work. It was discovered by Dr. Anna Alonso Tejada during the prospecting campaigns looking for prehistoric art in 1989. The same art includes the Mas del Gran, discovered in the same campaigns by Alexandre Grimal, in Montblanc, with similar samples.
