In Catalonia, traditions are meant to be honored, and the annual Sant Jordi Day is one of them. Every year, on April 23, the streets fill with locals buying roses and books at the many stalls. The tradition is that men give a rose to women, but nowadays everyone gives each other roses to celebrate Saint George, the patron saint of Catalonia. Since it is also World Book Day, commemorating the deaths of Shakespeare and Cervantes, Catalans also give each other a book. A lovely day to experience Catalonia at its most charming! In Montblanc, Sant Jordi is celebrated even more extensively: during the Medieval Week, locals wear costumes from that time and you can take part in workshops, attend concerts, and taste local delicacies.
