La Rambla in Barcelona was originally a dry riverbed that during heavy rains led water from the mountains to the sea.
La Rambla is a wide, busy, and lively boulevard that is only accessible to pedestrians in the middle and runs southeast, from Plaça de Catalunya to the old port. The total length of La Rambla is over 1 km. La Rambla is an important traffic hub for public transport, with bus stops and underground metro and train stations. On both sides of La Rambla, next to the pedestrian section, there is a section with busy city traffic. La Rambla is divided into five parts, which is why Spaniards also refer to it as “Las Ramblas.”
