The Santa Margarida Volcano has a circumference of 2 km and a height of 682m and is one of the most important volcanoes in the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. The sanctuary of Saint Margarida is located in the volcano. Hence the name. However, the sanctuary was destroyed in 1428 during the great earthquake known as the Catalan earthquake of 1428. It was restored in 1865.
