In 1982, it was declared a Natural Area of National Interest to preserve its vegetation and unique beauty, thus ensuring the restoration of open-pit coal mines. This massif is one of the most emblematic natural areas of Catalonia, with great biological and geological richness.
It is a mountain that rises from 1,300 meters to 2,497 at the upper crest, with a base of no more than three kilometers. Its walls host the wallcreeper and the alpine chough, and it is not very difficult to observe ibex up close. At the foot of Pedraforca lies the Gresolet valley, with impressive beech, fir, red pine, and black pine forests, which are of great interest to botany lovers.
It is a very popular area for climbers and hikers. In any case, it should be noted that one must be accustomed to walking, have basic knowledge of the mountain, and a minimum level of fitness to make the ascent.
Its peculiar shape has given rise to many legends and tales.
