We are faced with one of the doors of Muslim Málaga. This door was named so because in front of it the keys to the city were handed over. It was in this place that the Catholic Monarchs received the captives. A notable event occurred during the liberation of the slaves, which is recounted by Jerónimo Münzer: “Among the other captives appeared an old man with long beards, who claimed to have been captive for forty-eight years. To whom the queen said: What would you have thought if in the first year of your captivity you had been told: your redeemer has not yet been born? To which he replied sorrowfully: I would have died of sadness.” This event is depicted in the painting by José Moreno Carbonero, which is located in the Museum of Málaga.
