Granada Street. Former Royal Street

Granada Street is the street through which the Catholic Monarchs entered the city after the conquest. They passed through the Gate of Granada to walk down this street, one of the main ones at the time as it provided exit and access to the city. Because of this, it came to be known as Royal Street. The layout still preserves its original path, as can be seen in its initial serpentine shape, a legacy of Arab urban culture. Tradition says that when they entered, they did so in procession and that the queen carried an image of Our Lady of the Kings, an image that always accompanied them and displayed all her jewels. Meanwhile, she walked barefoot behind and dressed humbly. She was heading towards the main mosque to consecrate it.
