We are facing one of the hospitals founded during the time of the Catholic Monarchs in Málaga, and it is one of the three oldest in its category in Spain. The building was constructed in 1505 by Diego García de Hinestrosa on the land gifted to them by the Monarchs. Hinestrosa was a noble knight who founded the hospital as a charitable institution. Before the earthquake of 1884, the building was in the Gothic-Mudéjar style, but it had to be demolished to be rebuilt, drawing inspiration from its construction style. The chapel was preserved, along with the woodwork and artworks it housed. It specialized in the treatment of eye diseases. It is awaiting to open as a cathedral museum.
