Costa Vasca is a coastal zone on the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain and southwestern France. The coast runs from the headland of Punta Covarón in Muskiz to the mouth of the Adour. Some well-known beaches are the Playa de La Concha, Playa de Fuenterrabía and Playa de Zarauz. The coast is characterized by sharp cliffs, intersected by rías.
A ría is a river valley that flows into the sea, is subject to erosion and is partly flooded by the sea. A ría is subject to the action of ebb and flow, and thus forms a kind of estuary. A ría resembles a fjord, but it is a valley carved out by glaciers.
Further inland you will find a green hilly landscape with the Pyrenees in the background.
