The Monumental Rosary of Montserrat is a set of sculptural works of religious significance located on the path that leads from the Monastery of Montserrat to the Holy Cave where the image of the Virgin was found in 880.
The path is carved into the mountain, along the Montserrat Massif, constructed between 1691 and 1704 thanks to the patronage of Gertrudis de Camporrell, Marquise of Tamarit. Along its route, several sculptural groups dedicated to the Rosary and the fifteen mysteries of the Virgin were placed, built between 1896 and 1916. The works were funded through private donations, mainly from brotherhoods and Catholic entities, thanks to the appeal made by Jaume Collell i Bancells, canon of the cathedral of Vich, who promoted a campaign for the construction of the Monumental Rosary in the Jesuit magazine El Mensajero del Corazón de Jesús.
